Cidade do Vaticano (Segunda-feira, 17-12-2012, Gaudium Press) Uma cultura esportiva deve ser baseada sempre na superioridade humana, “um esporte a serviço do homem e não o homem a serviço do esporte”, ressaltou o Santo Padre na audiência privada a uma delegação do Comitê Olímpico Nacional Italiano, recebido esta manhã na Sala Clementina do Palácio Apostólico no Vaticano.
“O desafio então não diz respeito somente às regras, mas à visão do homem” que “tem necessidade de educação, de espiritualidade e de valores transcendentes”. O esporte é um “bem educativo”, que ajuda o homem a “compreender o valor profundo da vida”. Este é o motivo pelo qual “a Igreja se interessa pelo esporte”, destacou o Santo Padre no discurso.
Aos atletas, o Santo Padre dirigiu um convite apara serem “campeões-testemunhas” e para viver plenamente a experiência esportiva com a missão de se tornarem “modelos válidos de imitação”. Aos treinadores e aos trabalhadores do esporte, pediu para darem um testemunho de boa humanidade.
“A pressão para alcançar bons resultados – ressaltou o Papa – não deve nunca estimular a entrada em armadilhas, como ocorre no caso do “dopping”. O mesmo espírito de equipe deve servir tanto como incentivo para que se evite a escolha deste caminho, quanto para ajudar a quem reconhece seu erro, de modo que se sinta acolhido e ajudado”.
Bento XVI fez um convite para que se viva o Ano da Fé com “espírito de competição espiritual”, o que significa “viver cada dia em busca da vitória do bem contra o mal, da verdade sobre a mentira, do amor sobre o ódio, e tudo isso acima de tudo em si mesmo”.
“Pensando ainda no empenho da nova evangelização – continuou – o mundo do esporte também pode ser considerado um moderno “espaço dos gentios”, isto é, uma oportunidade preciosa de encontro aberto a todos, fieis e não fieis, onde se possa experimentar a alegria e também as dificuldades de confrontar-se com pessoas diversas, de diferentes culturas, línguas e orientações religiosas”.
Ao final do discurso, o Santo Padre propôs a figura do Beato Giorgio Frassati, um apaixonado pelo esporte e por Deus, como modelo a ser seguido pelos atletas.(AA/JS)
